How to frame your silhouette christmas card

Your christmas card is part of a limited edition of 200 "almost identical" hand cut silhouettes. Half of them face right, the other half left. Many of them will get thrown away, but if you're visiting this site you must be one of the enlightened few who recognise a work of art when you see it!

The sketch below shows how I envisage them being framed. I always think that silhouettes have an inate 3D sculptural quality which is lost when they are stuck to a card, so this simple framing technique will allow it to stand free within the frame.

Proceed as follows:

Purchase an 8"x 6" photo frame with a window mount cut to take a 7"x 5" photo.
Take the frame apart, following frame instructions.
Find a peice of good quality plain white or cream backing paper, and cut it to the same size as the frame glass.
Ignoring the frame instructions, place your xmas card in front of the mount, facing the glass, aligning the bottom of the card with the bottom of the frame. The natural springyness of the folded card will keep the silhouette against the glass.
The silhouette may overlap the mount at some point, particularly the ends of the flute! This is OK, and will help keep the silhouette against the glass.
Replace the mount, with the backing paper behind it.
Replace the back of the frame.

Silhouette editions such as this don't just make good christmas cards.
