THIS SERIES EVOLVED from the earlier poetry cuttings. Throughout lockdown the mask struck me as a potent symbol. I’ve always been fascinated by masks; Venetian masked balls are amongst my favourite kind of event to work at. Yet these lockdown masked portraits are very different.
When wearing any mask we feel to some extent “hidden”. Hiding the face is a powerful act which works on many levels to alter the way we communicate and interact with one another. In these pieces I wanted to use paper cutting to highlight the humanity of the person behind the mask.
Available to collectors either loose (wrapped in tissue and supplied in an A4 cachet portfolio, together with a certificate of authenticity) or mounted on glass in a limed-oak frame, with a signed white sheet behind the paper cutting and the certificate glued to the back.
