MY FIRST EXPERIMENTS using string were made with old picture frames. Later, I built a set of larger stretchers specifically for this project. My aim was simply to test the concept of a profile made from thread, explored in the earlier series on Tangential Profile drawings.
I placed a large, one-line profile drawing under the stretcher (each of a friend) and then laid lengths of string tangental to the profile and stapled them in place. I highlighted the profile using acrylic paint to bring out the line.
