UNUSUALLY FOR ME these explorative works were set in motion by a dream. I dreamed I was creating a massive silhouette using strands of thin, taught wire stretched between a metal frame: each wire fixed tangental to the profile.
On waking I began to make some tentative sketches of what this might look like, which mostly dissolved into an incomprehensible tangle of lines. This series of drawings and watercolours represent an attempt to solve this problem, either by adding colour between each line or by highlighting each line as it transits the profile.
The first works in the series were intended as studies to actually build the wire silhouette I had dreamed about. However, the watercolour versions then took off in their own direction.
Many pieces are available to view in the studio.
