AS LOCKDOWN comes to an end it may soon be possible to host events again. Some clients are asking how I can maintain social distancing whilst cutting a silhouette. I’ll answer this with a short story.

YOU MIGHT ASSUME that the market for guest speakers on silhouettes would occupy the tiniest of niches in a niche of the already niche market for speaker about art! Yet silhouettes touch a deep nerve in all of us.
ONE OF THE FREEDOMS in working at corporate events is the chance to make silhouette caricatures. I really love these lively and ridiculous cuttings. With their large heads and tiny bodies they poke fun at the guests but never cause offence.
I use printed folding cards to mount the silhouettes at an event. These cards can easily be branded with a corporate logo or the details of a wedding.
I’VE ALWAYS LOVED offering silhouette workshops. I’m aware that “having a go” an be a daunting prospect, particularly if you can’t draw. Yet if I put a pair of scissors in your hand the results may surprise you.
NOT EVERYBODY KNOWS what a silhouettist is. When I describe what I do,I’m often met with a blank stare. “You mean, you cut up bits of paper for a living?”
