These terms apply to all event bookings. They are designed to set out clearly how we work and what you can expect from us.
“Roving Artist” is a performance name used by Charles Burns, trading as “Silhouettist”.
Roving Artist Event Booking Terms
1. Booking and confirmation
A booking is confirmed once we have agreed the details with you (either by email or with a booking form) and accepted the engagement. At that point, the date is reserved exclusively for you.
2. Fees and payment
The agreed fee will be confirmed in advance. Payment terms, including any deposit due, will be set out in our booking form.
Unless otherwise agreed, full payment is due within 14 days following the event.
3. Cancellations
Once a booking is confirmed, the date is reserved exclusively for you and we will decline other enquiries.
If you cancel the booking:
- more than 7 days before the event, 50% of the agreed fee remains payable
- within 7 days of the event, the full fee remains payable
This reflects the fact that we are unlikely to rebook the date at short notice.
Neither party is liable for cancellation caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control (for example, illness, severe weather, or travel disruption).
4. What we provide
We attend your event and provide entertainment by creating hand-cut silhouette portraits for your guests. These silhouettes are usually presented in folding wallet cards for guests to take home.
The number of silhouettes produced will depend on factors such as event duration, guest flow, and working conditions. While we aim to entertain as many guests as possible, we cannot guarantee to cut a portrait of every attendee.
5. Working conditions
To work effectively, we require:
- reasonable lighting
- shelter appropriate to the venue (especially if cutting outdoors)
- a space to leave a coat and bag (eg: artist’s green room or similar)
We will always work flexibly with what is available, but unsuitable conditions may affect output or the quality of the work produced.
6. Silhouette wallets
We normally provide standard silhouette wallets (folding cards used to present and protect each silhouette) as part of our service. We can also supply customised wallets (for example, with a logo or event details) by prior arrangement.
Clients are welcome to supply their own wallets if they prefer. However, these must be suitable for practical use during the event (for example, an appropriate size and format for handling and carrying while working, and with space to mount a silhouette).
Silhouette wallets should also include a simple credit identifying the artist (e.g. “© Silhouette by Charles Burns”).
If supplied wallets are not suitable in practice, we reserve the right to use our standard wallets instead.
7. Client responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- ensuring access to the venue at the agreed time
- providing accurate event details
- ensuring a safe working environment
8. Silhouettes and copyright
All silhouettes are original works of art. Copyright remains with the artist.
Guests receive their silhouettes for personal use (eg: home display or social media profiles). If you wish to use images commercially, please contact us for permission.
9. Photographs and examples of work
We may occasionally take photographs at events or use duplicate silhouettes as part of our artistic record and to show examples of our work (including on our website and social media).
We take care to use images respectfully. If you would prefer that no images are used from your event, please let us know in advance.
10. Liability
We carry out our work with care and professionalism. However, we cannot accept liability for circumstances outside our control that affect the event or our ability to perform, or which limit the number of silhouettes produced..
11. Contact
If you have any questions about these terms, please contact us. We are always happy to discuss details in advance.
These terms may be updated from time to time by updating this page on our website.
